Expo Chicago begins at 11 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 at Navy Pier. For the last three years Expo Chicago has brought a large scale fine art fair to Chicago. in its fourth year the show features Contemporary and Modern Art and features 140 galleries from 16 countries. The show also features Exposure, a section for younger galleries that allows them to be involved in a major art show. The galleries here feature emerging artists. There are also a slew of on-site programming you can find out about HERE. Art Basel Hong Kong presents Encounters, 20 large scale art works. These are works that are too large for the confines of an art fair booth. This year Encounters is curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor, Executive Director of Artspace in Sydney. Works include new pieces by David Claerbout, Dzine (Carlos Rolon), Taeyoon Kim, Zai Kuning, Yang Maoyuan, Dane Mitchell, Eko Nugroho, João Vasco Paiva, Shooshie Sulaiman, Gao Weigang and Zhao Zhao and previously works by Mikala Dwyer, Cao Fei, Siobhán Hapaska, Wang Keping, Hew Locke, Tallur L.N., Xu Longsen, Sterling Ruby and Lee Ufan. The Chicago Artist's Coalition Announces Galleries For Edition Chicago 2014 (September 19-21, 2014)8/22/2014 The Chicago Artist's Coalition's Edition Chicago have announced the galleries for the upcoming event (September 19-21, 2014). Edition Chicago takes place at the same time as Expo Chicago, the city's exposition of contemporary and modern art. As I have mentioned before this holding of multiple events simultaneously makes Chicago more of an art destination. Galleries at this year's Edition include; Chicago Artists Coalition (Chicago), Gallery 19 (Chicago), Steven Harvey (New York City), Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago), Ochi Shop (Ketchum, Idaho), David Peterson Gallery (Minneapolis), The Pitch Project (Milwaukee), Andrew Rafacz Gallery (Chicago), Segura Arts Studio (South Bend, Indiana),THE MISSION (Chicago), Vertical Gallery (Chicago) and Yaupetec (Mexico City). For more information head to chicagoartistscoalition.org. Chicago Artist's Coalition's Edition Chicago Returns September 19 To 22, 2014 at 217 N. Carpenter Street. The Chicago Artist's Coalition, in its 40th year, is bringing back their art fair in the West Loop. The fair focuses on art by emerging artists available at moderate prices. The dates coincide with Expo Chicago (held at Navy Pier). Edition Chicago features cutting edge galleries and non-profits from all over the USA. This concentration of art fairs in Chicago is great news. It helps make Chicago more of an art travel destination. So often there fairs feel as if they are competing against one another rather than taking the more constructive attitude of "a rising tide raises all boats." Bravo Chicago Artist's Coalition and Expo Chicago. The fair was founded by the Coalition and Andre Rafacz. ArtRageous Kids Center, sponsored by Miami Children's Museum runs at Art Wynwood February 15 to 17, 2014. The center provides a safe playroom for kids 3-13. While the parents check out the Fair the kids are introduced to art through activities: art exploration, puzzles, stories, games and more. The kids are supervised by the staff of the Miami Children's Museum. I sent my son there for summer camp two years when he was little. The center is open Saturday to Monday during fair hours. For more information or to pre-register call Anais at305-373-5437x124 or EMAIL. You can register in advance or when you get to the fair (note there is a capacity of 25). The center is free with Art Wynwood admission. Children myst be potty trained. You can enter up to three kids or three hours. The second edition of Art Basel Hong Kong (May 15-19, 2014) has announced the list of participating galleries. You can see a list of HERE. Twenty-four galleries have spaces in Hong Kong. There will also be a film section curated by Li Zhenhua. For those who are not often in Beijing or Lucerne, but who do make it to Art Basel in Miami Beach, Galerie Urs Meile will be part of the fair. The gallery will present works by both established and emerging artists. Their artists come from both East and West. Artists include; Ai Weiwei, Hu Qingyan, Cheng Ran, Christian Schoeler, Li Gang, Qiu Shihua, Julia Steiner, Shao Fan, Anatoly Shuravlev, Wang Xingwei, Xie Nanxing and Yan Xing. Marwen Foundation Art Fair Takes Place November 8, 2013 In Chicago, Benefit For Under-Served Youth11/6/2013 Marwen Foundation's Art Fair 2013 takes place 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, November 8th at 833 North Orleans Street Chicago. The annual fair is an exhibition, sale and celebration of the myriad programs at Marwen. There will be over 200 pieces in a multitude of media--created by teachers, students, alumni and staff of the organization. If you go there will be food, drink and music--and a chance to meet the artists (all is included with ticket price). All artists donate half of their sales to programs for under-served young people in Chicago. Tickets-- $35 advance tickets on sale now through November 6. $45 tickets at the door photos by Boyd Ogle II Galleri Bo Bjerggaard (Copehagen) had work by a number of Danish artists at Expo Chicago--including perhaps the best known contemporary artist from that country, Per Kirkeby. Kirkeby has a degree in--wait for it--arctic geology. At the time he was studying for this degree he was already an artist. It seems a fascinating choice for a major. His work is in the collections of Museum of Modern Art (NYC), the Tate Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC) and many others. Per Bak Jensen is a photographer. He is known for never manipulating his images. There is no computer trickery in the pieces below. He is a former professor at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts and, like Kirkeby, has work at the Museum of Modern Art (NYC), the Metropolitan Museum and also at Bibliothéque Nationale (Paris).
